The activities of architects Sami Rintala and Dagur Eggertsson are directed towards achieving balance between man and nature: We will need a more radical way, movement, comparable with the birth of modernism, but this time based on a balance between man and nature. The active relationship towards nature is brought to an extreme by Sami Rintala, sailing his boat between the Lofoten Islands, exposed to storms and a raging ocean. He believes that we are too sheltered in today’s world, so it is necessary to be re-exposed to reality, as is expressed in the projects: Floating Sauna on Lake Kaluga near Moscow, or the mountain shelters in Kåfjord, Norway. 

 

These expressive installations were created during numerous student workshops Rintala ran in different environments; from Japan and Russia to Macedonia. Handiwork added extra meaning to the projects, always closely connected with the local context and the traditions, naturally never in a literal, mimetic meaning.
